For those who suffer from hemorrhoids , there are a number of foods to avoid and one of these could be tuna. I say this because it is considered a lean fish and therefore a food that can be eaten, it is not one of those to avoid.

Best Hemorrhoid Products

So fresh tuna can be eaten safely, or the one you buy in glass containers. However, you should avoid canned tuna because all canned foods can lead to inflammation of the hated hemorrhoids so painful and annoying that they do not allow us to live peacefully. Canned foods in general should be avoided.

What foods to avoid with hemorrhoids:

Before listing the foods to avoid, I would like to explain how the disorders manifest themselves.
Hemorrhoids are very common but if they are underestimated they can complicate the pursuit of a peaceful life.
The most common symptoms are itching, burning and even pain in the rectal area. If these symptoms are underestimated they can lead to complications such as anal fissures for which surgery is needed, or annoying bleeding but above all pain sometimes very strong that prevents even remaining in a sitting position.
We all know that hemorrhoids can arise for various reasons such as a sedentary lifestyle, pregnancy, obesity, chronic constipation or a tiring job that forces you to stand or sit for a long time. Having an unbalanced and disordered diet, rich in carbs, fats and sugars is not at all helpful for those who suffer from this disorder. However, you do not have to follow a drastic diet, just try to avoid certain foods and eat healthy and balanced things.
The foods to absolutely avoid with hemorrhoids are astringent ones, that is, those that absorb water, and irritating ones.
Astringent foods have indigestible components that absorb water and increase in volume. This makes it difficult for the food to pass from the colon to the intestine, thus causing constipation.

The most well-known and present astringent foods in the diet are:

  • Rice (not brown rice).
  • Carrot
  • Bananas: unripe ones should be eliminated.
  • Dried fruits
  • Dehydrated eggs: found mainly in industrial sweets and mayonnaise
  • Crustaceans
  • Canned foods: and here I go back to canned tuna as mentioned before
  • Mature cheeses
  • Lemon: even if, in the morning on an empty stomach and before the main meals, you drink a glass of water with a little squeezed lemon, intestinal transit is helped and therefore there are fewer problems for hemorrhoids.
  • Apple
  • Potatoes: especially boiled ones should be avoided because they absorb a lot of water.

As for foods that irritate the intestinal mucosa, they can cause discomfort:

  • Carbonated drinks
  • Coffee and all drinks with a high caffeine content.
  • Spices, especially pepper and mustard, but also chili pepper even if for some people it can have an anti-inflammatory action especially if it is in powder form. In this case chili pepper is not among the foods to avoid.
  • Alcoholic and spirits including beer and wines.
  • The vinegar
  • Tomatoes, especially raw ones
  • The peppers
  • Cured meats: mortadella, salami and sausages
  • Foods containing hydrogenated fats such as margarine.
  • Condiments rich in saturated fats such as butter, cream or lard.
  • Sauces also made with colorants such as ketchup, mayonnaise and BBQ.
  • Foods high in salt, sodium retains fluids, worsening constipation.

The diet that fights hemorrhoids must therefore be rich in fibers found in fruits and vegetables, legumes and whole grains. It is very important, if not essential, to hydrate the body by drinking one and a half to two liters of natural water a day.
Red fruits are very suitable because they contain substances that reduce the swelling and size of hemorrhoids such as cherries, raspberries and blueberries also known to help circulation.

Foods rich in zinc are good for the diet against hemorrhoids. The most suitable ones are:

  • Dried legumes such as beans, chickpeas and lentils.
  • Oysters and seafood.
  • Almonds, walnuts and pistachios.
  • The mushrooms
  • Chicken, beef and lamb.
  • Pumpkin, sunflower and sesame seeds.

Foods rich in iron, because with hemorrhoids you can lose blood and therefore cause a loss of this mineral . Among these foods we point out horse meat and turkey, liver and offal, sea bass and bass among fish, egg yolk.

As for dressings to use for dishes and salads, olive oil and linseed oil are recommended.
As for spices, we recommend ginger, onion and garlic which contain a protein used in blood clotting.
