Pigs Mating Requirements

Before you dream of breeding pigs in Minecraft, you must have any of the three items.

  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Beetroots

Once you have any of these items in your Inventory, you must arrange some fences. The fences will keep your pigs in a contained area to increase the chances of breeding.

Finally, if you have the fences already, you must feed the Pigs with any of the three items. As soon as the two adult pings consume the foods, they enter love mode and exchange red hearts. The hearts indicate that the pigs are ready to mate and will follow you.

You must enter the fence and keep the pigs inside, preventing them from escaping. If you have two pigs inside the fence, they will walk towards each other. Therefore, the process will spawn a baby pig, which will soon grow into an adult.

There is no extended timing limit that you need to wait for breeding. Additionally, you must wait for 5 minutes to make the pigs ready for breeding again.

Why is Breeding Pigs Useful in Minecraft?

In Minecraft, breeding pigs is extremely beneficial for your game. One of the easiest food sources to get in Minecraft is the Pigs, so having a pig farm can help you greatly.

If you breed pigs, you can start a pig farm and obtain XP points. The points will not be enough, but still, they will help you a bit. Additionally, if you see farms with fully bred pigs, you can kill or blow them, allowing you to get abundant meat in one place.

A Summary of Minecraft Pigs

  • Classification Type: Animal
  • Behavior: Passive
  • Health: 10

Pigs are a passive mob and a wonderful addition to the game. Interestingly, the pigs are considered a food source and can be used for transportation. Pig roams around the world and avoids hurdles, including dangerous falls. Unfortunately, if piglets or pigs are struck by lightning, it will turn them into zombies. The equipped saddle will be lost in such cases, making the players unable to use them for transportation.

  • Note: The pig will get only normal damage from the lightning while in the Peaceful difficulty.

Where to Find Pigs in Minecraft?

Pigs have different spawning locations in different versions of Minecraft.

  • In Bedrock Edition:

You will find them in groups of 1 to 3 pigs above the grass blocks of Level 7 or more in the Overworld Biome. Importantly, the chances of getting pigs are relatively fewer in the meadows, snowy plains, and wooded badlands plateaus regions. Pigs in single spawns on the grass, and you can find them according to convenience and needs.

  • In Java Edition:

Much identical to the Bedrock edition, you can discover pigs spawning in the bunch of 4 above the grass blocks of Level 9 or more in the Overworld Biome.

Some regions that you can avoid exploring are the snowy plains, wooded badlands, and meadows areas. Additionally, individual pigs may appear on the grass after the world generation.

In Minecraft, pigs can be found in the stables, animal pens, and butcher house backyards. Interestingly, about 95% of adult pigs and 5% of baby pigs, i.e., piglets, spawn.

  • Note: You will not find any Pig spawning with a saddle in Minecraft.

You will get the pork chop in raw form upon killing the pig, but you can cook it according to your choice inside the furnace. However, killing the piglet will not provide you with any item.

Additionally, 1 to 3 experience orbs will be rewarded if the pig is killed by a tamed wolf or a player. A successful breeding of pigs will give you 1 to 7 orbs.
