In Minecraft, Sniffers are a unique addition that doesn't spawn normally. Importantly, the Minecraft Sniffers only consume Torchflower seeds. The Torchflower is an interesting ancient plant seed that can only be collected by the sniffers themselves.

Usually, the Sniffer will bury their nose in the ground and begin digging. After the Sniffer has completed burying, there are chances of getting the Torchflower seeds on the floor. So, you should carefully monitor the Sniffer while digging the ground as it will help this mob and you in many ways.

Why Are Feeding Sniffers Important in Minecraft?

Normally, feeding Minecraft Sniffers will help them to grow and become adults. Besides this, when two Adult Sniffers consume the seeds, they will enter into the love mode. During love mode, they will mate and drop the egg eventually. The egg will be the Sniffer egg, which will hatch into a snifflet. The baby Sniffers in Minecraft are called Snifflets.

Before they start mating, parents get a 5-minute cooldown. Players can breed them since they will dig the ground for the ancient seeds. The baby Sniffers will take around 40 minutes to two Minecraft days to turn into an adult. In Minecraft, feeding Minecraft or other mobs generates their health points. When each new mob is fed, it will gain a single heart or two health points.

A Summary of the Minecraft Sniffers

  • Classification Type: Animal
  • Behavior: Passive
  • Health: 14
  • Hearts: 7

Sniffer is one of the popular Minecraft mobs who won the Minecraft Mob Vote 2022 and was added to the game with the 1.20 update. Moreover, its inclusion in the game made it the first ancient mob to be added to the Minecraft world.

Since it has incredible sniffing power, Sniffer keeps roaming the world and finding the seeds in the ground. The mob aimlessly explores the Minecraft world, avoiding any incoming obstacles, including water, lava, massive blocks, etc.

When Sniffer detects any ancient seeds buried underneath, it will sit on the ground, start burying, and put its head inside. Afterward, it will slowly pull out the seed. The seed can be used as an item or obtain unique plants by throwing them on the farmland.

Besides this, Sniffers are one of the largest Minecraft mobs, powered with a good health of 14 points. Sniffers' health reduces gradually with the interaction of lava, fire, and fall damage. In addition, the passive mob isn't immune to suffocation and drowning since its eggs spawn within the ocean.

Minecraft Sniffers Location

Sniffers don’t spawn naturally in the Minecraft world, requiring players to get them from the hatched egg. The sniffers' eggs can be discovered in suspicious sand from warm ocean ruins. The eggs will give the Snifflets that will grow and become massive.

Additionally, breeding Sniffers can give you the baby Sniffers that you can nurture and provide nutrients, allowing them to grow into full adults.

How Do Sniffers Sniff?

If you succeed in turning the baby Sniffer into a young adult, you need to provide it some time to learn to sniff. Moreover, they will not find any seeds and begin the eight-minute cooldown when they are done.

Usually, they only remember the last 20 blocks they explored, letting them not choose them again. For Sniffing, Minecraft Sniffers requires a 6×6 block area.

The area should be any Dirt, Coarse Dirt, Rooted Dirt, Podzol, Mud, Grass Block, Moss Block, and Muddy Mangrove Roots. So, after you have selected a suitable spot for digging, Sniffers will begin doing their job.

  • Tip: You can have more Sniffers for digging and increasing the overall productivity.

Are Torchflower Seeds the Only Ancient Seeds of Minecraft?

In Minecraft, the Torchflower seeds aren't only ancient seeds. Usually, the Ancient Seeds are those seeds that are buried underground. Moreover, these rare seeds can be found in these Sniffers in Minecraft.

Upon planting, the seeds will grow into a full plant that you can use for decoration purposes. However, you can’t get more Torchflower seeds from the plants. Therefore, you must rely on Sniffers for these Torchflower seeds.

Interestingly, the Minecraft Sniffers can find two variants of flower seeds in-game, Torchflower Seeds and Pitcher Pods. You can plant these two ancient seeds on the farmland blocks and notice them grow into a healthy plant.

If you want, you can break them at any stage and use them for decoration. Importantly, you can place the plant as a decoration item anywhere in the world.

  • Note: The Torchflower Seeds possess three growth stages and the Pitcher Pods have five growth stages.
